Welcome!

Grace & Peace!

Welcome to Ephphatha! A catholic blog focused on digging deeper into the Bible and enriching our minds with the Word of God.

Considering the wide array of Christian/Catholic blogs readily available, I wondered what unique perspective could be offered through this blog. Sitting in prayerful thought, I came to the realization that nothing captivates me quite like reading and understanding Scripture; what better foundation to build this blog on, than Scripture itself!

Why Scripture?

Ever since the gift of faith became my own, rather than just a time-old religion passed on to me from my parents, Scripture has been my closest companion. In short, it has been my safeguard, source of spiritual growth, comfort, love, and many times a saving raft in a violent sea of pain and heartache.

It’s easy to disregard Scripture as just a compilation of books and letters written over 2,000 years ago, but digging deeper, you begin to uncover the beauty in the words God speaks to us.

Through this blog, I want to enter into a journey with you to delve into the immeasurable beauty of Scripture.

Beauty that gives us a deep insight of the profound love God has for us --- His people. A love that has been poured out on those pages to prove that time and time again, His love will see us to the end.

What is behind the name “Ephphatha”?

Many of you may know the word “ephphatha” through hearing it as one of the words that Jesus spoke in Mark 7:34 where He opened the ears and released the tongue of a deaf man with a speech impediment.

Then looking up to Heaven, he sighed and said to him. "Ephphatha," that is, "Be opened." And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue released, and he spoke plainly. Mark 7:34-35

Reading this verse, you can see that “ephphatha” means “be opened”. Mark 7:34 combined with Luke 24:45 is my inspiration behind the name "Ephphatha."

Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures Luke 24:45

It is my prayer that through this blog, both you and I receive this word “ephphatha” as said directly to us from Jesus, in order that our minds and our hearts may become opened to attaining a deeper understanding of Scripture.
